State Primary Election – September 3, 2024

Polls Open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM


The State Primary Election will take place on September 3, 2024 for the following offices:

  • U.S. Senator
  • U.S. Representative
  • Governor’s Councillor
  • State Senator
  • State Representative
  • Register of Deeds
  • Clerk of Courts
  • County Commissioner 

 

Three Ballots are available for the State Primary Election:  Democrat, Libertarian, or Republican

If you are registered with one of the three parties, you must vote that party's primary ballot.

If you are unenrolled, you may select one of the three party primaries to vote.  This will not change your party registration.

Voter Registration Deadline for September 3, 2024 State Primary:   Saturday August 24, 2024 

     This is also the last day to change your party designation


Register in person at the Town Clerk’s Office in the Town Hall

Ways to Vote the September 3, 2024 Primary Election

  • In person on September 3, 2024 at your polling location from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • In person during early voting hours at Town Hall

  • Absentee if you will not be in Needham and are a registered voter
      • You may request that an absentee ballot be mailed to you or you may fill out an absentee ballot request and vote at the same time at the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours.  Please note that the last day to vote absentee in person in Friday August 30, 2024.  The Town Clerk's Office will be open until 5:00 pm on August 30 to allow for absentee voting.
  • By mail if you are a Needham registered voter
      • Vote by Mail Application Deadline:  August 26, 2024
        • You may vote by mail for the State Primary Election.  Many Needham voters have already applied to  vote by mail for all elections this year.  If you have not, you recently received a post card in the mail to apply to vote by mail.  Or you may apply on line at the Secretary of State website:  https://www.sec.state.ma.us/MailInRequestWeb/MailInBallot.aspx.
        • You may also apply at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular business hours and during voter registration on Saturday August 24, 2024.
        • If you are voting by mail, please note that the US Postal Service recommends mailing your ballot at least 1 week before election day.
  • UOCAVA if you are on military active duty or a family member or are living abroad temporarily or permanently


Testing of Election Tabulators

Election tabulators will be tested on Wednesday August 21, 2024 and Thursday August 22, 2024 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Highland Room at Town Hall.  Interested members of the public may view the testing.

Advance Removal of Early and Absentee Voting Ballots

The Town will be opening early and absentee voting ballots that have been received on August 28, 2024 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Each ballot will be opened and recorded as received.  The ballots will then be securely stored by precinct until election day when they will be tabulated at their respective precincts.  Interested members of the public may view the advance removal of early and absentee voting ballots and may challenge ballots.
