The Recycling and Transfer Station (RTS) provides residents with the opportunities to safely dispose of a variety of hazardous materials that can not be safely disposed of in regular trash. See details
Reciprocal HHW Day Communities
Needham now has a reciprocal agreement with fourteen other local towns for Household Hazardous Waste collections. Fees are assessed for materials brought to a town where you are not a resident. See details
Hazardous Materials Collected Daily at the RTS
The RTS collects a variety of hazardous materials on a daily basis:
- Antifreeze
- Automobile batteries
- Computer monitors
- Fluorescent bulbs
- Freon containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, AC, dehumidifiers)
- Medical
sharps Mercury containing devices (thermostats, thermometers, etc.)- Motor oil
- Rechargeable and specialty batteries
- TVs

Household Hazardous Waste Days
Needham conducts one Household Hazardous Waste Day per year. 2025 collection will be Saturday, October 25th from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the DPW Building at 470 Dedham Avenue.
