Town of Needham Urges Residents to Temporarily Reduce Water Consumption
Town water is safe to drink and to use for activities of daily living. Action is requested starting Friday, July 25, to maintain adequate water pressure during emergency repairs. The Town will provide another update on Monday, July 28.
The Town of Needham is requesting the cooperation of all residents to temporarily reduce your water usage to support emergency maintenance required by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).
The MWRA has announced that unexpected maintenance work is required on its system. As a precautionary measure, the Town of Needham’s Department of Public Works has been placed on standby to accept potential mutual aid from the neighboring Town of Wellesley if additional water is needed. During this time, residents may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure or brief water discoloration. These changes are not harmful to health or safety. The water is safe to drink and use for activities of daily living.
To help maintain adequate water pressure for both communities and to support essential services, residents are asked to reduce their water consumption immediately, until the maintenance work is complete. Please take the following steps:
Outdoor:
- Temporarily suspend lawn watering and irrigation systems
- Postpone car washing and power washing
- Avoid filling pools or hot tubs
Indoor:
- Take shorter showers
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full
- Limit non-essential water use
Your voluntary cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps ensure adequate water pressure for essential services during this maintenance period. We will provide updates as work progresses and will notify residents when normal service is restored.
