Vital Records
You may order and pay for vital records online. Please follow the vital records link and select which vital record you would like to order. The following vital records are available:
Birth Certificates
If you were born in the Town of Needham, or your parents resided in the Town of Needham at the time of your birth, you may obtain a birth certificate from the Needham Town Clerk’s Office. The fee is $15 for a birth certificate. If ordered online, the birth certificate will be mailed within two business days of receipt of payment. You may also order a birth certificate by coming in person or calling the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7500 x503. The birth certificate will usually be available the same or next day and will be provided to you upon payment. We accept cash, checks and credit cards for payment. Alternatively, you may mail a request to the Town Clerk's Office with a check for $15 per birth certificate. Please make sure to include your return mailing address with your request. By-mail requests will be sent out within two business days.
Marriage Certificates
If you applied for your marriage in the Town of Needham, you will be able to request a certified copy of your marriage certificate. If you are not sure where you applied for you marriage license, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7500 x503 to verify that we have your marriage certificate. The fee is $15 for a marriage certificate. If ordered online, the marriage certificate will be mailed within two business days of receipt of payment. You may also order a marriage certificate by coming in person or calling the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7500 x503. The marriage certificate will usually be available the same or next day and will be provided to you upon payment. We accept cash, checks and credit cards for payment. Alternatively, you may mail a request to the Town Clerk's Office with a check for $15 per copy of the marriage certificate. Please make sure to include your return mailing address with your request. By-mail requests will be sent out within two business days.
Marriage Licenses - How to Apply
In order to obtain a marriage license, Party A and Party B must appear together to fill out the Marriage Intention at any Town Clerk’s Office in Massachusetts as long as they are getting married in Massachusetts. The Marriage Intention is good for 60 days. There is a three-day waiting period. The Town Clerk's Office is available during all business hours to issue marriage licenses. No appointments are needed. Please allow approximately 20 minutes to fill out the Marriage Intention. The fee is $35. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 781-455-7500 x503.
Death Certificates
If the individual died in the Town of Needham, or was a resident of the Town, you will be able to order a death certificate for that individual. If you are not sure whether we have a death certificate, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7500 x503 to verify that we have the death certificate. The fee is $15 for a death certificate. If ordered online, the death certificate will be mailed within two business days of receipt of payment. You may also order a death certificate by coming in person or calling the Town Clerk's Office at 781-455-7500 x503. The death certificate will usually be available the same or next day and will be provided to you upon payment. We accept cash, checks and credit cards for payment. Alternatively, you may mail a request to the Town Clerk's Office with a check for $15 per death certificate. Please make sure to include your return mailing address with your request. By-mail requests will be sent out within two business days. Please note that we receive requests for "copies of death certificates" from individuals conducting genealogy searches. "Copies" of death certificates do not exist. All death certificates are certified and carry a $15 fee.
