Residents are invited to the Jack Cogswell Building at the Recycling and Transfer Station (RTS) this Sunday, March 9th from 2-4 pm to learn more about the proposed construction of a new Fleet Maintenance Facility. This will be a drop-in open house format which will include a walkthrough of the site and building layouts with time reserved for questions after the presentation.
This facility housed Operations staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and was identified through the last
iteration of the DPW Complex Master Plan as the ideal location to house the Town’s fleet maintenance facilities which consists of six Town staff and their operations that currently operate out of the DPW Building at 470 Dedham Ave. It will include locker rooms, break rooms and staff offices.
For additional information on this project, please see the DPW Complex Master Plan that was approved by the Select Board in 2023:
www.needhamma.gov/DPWfeasibilitystudiesThis report identified the numerous deficiencies of the 1950’s DPW building at 470 Dedham Avenue and other DPW facilities and recommended a strategic phased plan to address the problems. This project is the first phase of that plan and is proposed to be funded at the May 2025 Town Meeting.
The RTS will be closed on Sunday, but you can park near the Jack Cogswell Building or along the RTS entry drive at 1421 Central Avenue for the Open House event. Overflow parking is available at Claxton Field across the street.
